1 Chronicles 11 & 12 list the many mighty warriors who were leaders in David’s army, whom God used to defend Israel (example 1 Chronicles 11:14).
From the book of Exodus on, it is recorded how that God’s people had to fight in wars against many enemies. When Israel was serving God, God would give them victory on the battlefield. When they turned their back to God, God would use the enemy to punish them, and to affect their repentance.
When God anointed David to be king over Israel, he came to the forefront of Israel by way of defeating the Philistine giant in war.
There is no way Israel could have existed as a nation had they not fought the wars that defended their nation from enemy aggression.
It should also be noted that Israel obtained possession of Canaan by war, driving out the wicked inhabitants thereof.
When Christ comes back to set up His millennial kingdom, the first order of business will be war, at which time the beast and the false prophet are cast alive into the lake of fire, and Christ will then slay all their armies – Revelation 19:15-21.
Revelation 20 records how that when Satan is bound in the bottomless pit, that he should deceive the nations no more, there will be 1,000 years of no war on earth, with Christ as King over all the earth: “And he shall judge among many people, and rebuke strong nations afar off; and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up a sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.” Micah 4:3
But when Satan is loosed out of the bottomless pit: “And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison, And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, God and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea. And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them.” Revelation 20:7-9
The evidence is clear: as long as Satan is free to deceive mankind, there will be wars and rumors of war. To object to the fact of war won’t eliminate war, anymore than objecting to Satan will eliminate Satan. As long as Satan and sin exist, there will be wars fought.
THUS WE SALUTE our veterans and our armed forces. If it were not for them, our country would be overrun by enemy powers and oppression. May we be ever mindful and thoughtful of this reality as we live, raise our families, and serve God in this God given country.
